Stair Gazing

I've got a bit of a thing for winding staircases. There is something mesmerizing about venturing through helical passageways -- the spiraling twists and turns, the escalating anticipation as you ascend, and the vertigo of acceleration as you descend. Grand entrances, kisses, arguments, fights, chases, final farewells... everything just seems more dramatic and intense within a stairwell.

I've been collecting photos of staircases and stairwells to frame or compile into a coffee table book someday. Here are a few of my favorites.

I love circling stairs too! But i always get all morbid and think about how much it'll suck to fall down one and knock ur head and limbs on a few railings =T Otherwise they are pretty and grand =)

Haha I agree! Even plummeting to one's death seems much more extreme and brutal in a stairwell!

Things that give the illusion of infinity are always mesmerizing and you hit it on the nail with escalating anticipation..there's always a sense of accomplishment when you reach the top of winding stairs. Like you just conquered something that made you do things you dont normally do(like walk in circles). I may not be making sense right now...but great photography and even better writing.
